Easy to care for, big on style and functionality
This 1700-square foot brand new bungalow built an hour South-East of Winnipeg started with the homeowner’s desire to downsize. Snowbirds, cottage goers and avid travellers, they wanted a home base that was easier to care for, but was big on style and functionality.
Their previous home was done in an extremely dark colour palette (imagine black granite, dark espresso floors and cabinetry and deep taupe walls) so they wanted this home to be the opposite of that. Bright, light, cozy and full of texture.
We started with beautiful hand-scraped white oak floors, black fibreglass windows, custom stained fir beams and ceiling feature, and all white walls. The kitchen cabinetry was done in a soft grey, with black accents and the most glorious marble-like quartz countertops and backsplash. Oversized black and gold pendant lights and rattan barstools add texture and interest to an otherwise quiet palette.
Colour plays a big role in the living room and master bedroom to add playfulness and interest. The master bedroom scheme was pulled from a vintage rug the clients bought on a trip to Turkey years earlier.
The ensuite bathroom carries a soft color palette like the kitchen, but brings in a ton of texture with the sandy, wave like quartz tub surround and countertops. Soft gold fixtures and hardware give a spa like retreat to enjoy while getting ready for the day or unwinding at night.
The laundry room and back entrance are an absolute dream in a soft grey and white colour palette with the most beautiful cloudy day wallpaper in black and white by Cole and Son.
